Construction Update:

Chris Hartzler of Centex-Lee was able to provide us with some encouraging words about the progress of the Pentagon Memorial. To date more than thirty-two thousand cubic yards of dirt has been removed from the park site and the park excavation phase of the project is 100% complete. Workers have also completed re-routing existing utility lines that were under the current “foot print” of the new park.

The water lines for the individual fountain pools that will be under each bench have been laid and the return lines are nearly completed. Between eight and ten thousand yards of new fill were brought to the site, which represents the completion of the first layer of “good fill.”  Several more layers of “good fill” will be added to insure proper stability for the park.

This month has also seen the completion of the storm water management system for the park, which will help stabilize the foundation layer of the Memorial. “This job is very special for each and every worker on the site,” said Hartzler. “We work overtime and weekends, especially in good weather, to make sure this memorial will be completed on time.”
