As the photos can attest construction on the Pentagon Memorial is moving along as planned. Reports from the team on site indicate that construction is ahead of schedule and crews are working overtime and on weekends to ensure the memorial is completed on time. “We like to get a cushion of time in a project like this,” said Chris Hatrzler, project manager for Centex-Lee Construction. “We have been lucky with the weather so far this fall but winter is coming and those months are usually the toughest on jobs the size of this.”

The current phase of the project involves laying the water lines that will eventually distribute fresh water through all of the pools that will be under each of the 184 benches located throughout the park. The first phase of the project is nearly completed with excavation and replenishment of building grade soils. It is anticipated that the first prototypes of the Memorial Benches will be available for placement within the park some time during the spring and summer of 2007.

The Pentagon Memorial is scheduled for completion by September 11th, 2008 when a commemoration ceremony will take place. For more information about the memorial and information about how you can participate in helping fund it’s construction, please visit www.pentagonmemorial.net.
